|Attorney Access Pass|
As a reminder, Thursday, May 1st, 2014 was the day the new attorney courthouse access pass went into effect. If you have not already obtained a pass, the LCBA will be issuing cards at their office, located at 300 Grand Ave, Ste A, Waukegan, IL. Please also spread the word to all non-LCBA attorneys who use the Lake County Courthouse.
Prior to this new access pass, there was simply no reliable system to differentiate attorneys from non-attorneys at the Attorney/County Personnel Only line at the north entrance of the Waukegan Courthouse. Nor was there a reliable and systematic method for allowing attorneys to proceed to the front of the line at the south entrance of the Waukegan Courthouse and the Branch Courts.
The new attorney identification card will allow the bearer to use the Attorney/County Personnel Only line at the north entrance of the Waukegan Courthouse or proceed to the front of the line at the south entrance of the Waukegan Courthouse and the Branch Courts.
The LCBA Courthouse Access Subcommittee wishes to thank all members for their patience and understanding during this initial pilot program. We hope that this is the first step into the process of allowing easier access to the courthouse for attorneys, while at the same time maintaining and even enhancing the security process.
If the attorney courthouse screening card pilot program is successful, the LCBA has researched a more advanced access control system which allows for proximity card readers and onscreen display of card bearers’ information to courthouse personnel, similar to the system currently used at the DuPage County Courthouse. Rest assured that the LCBA will continue to work closely with the Executive Justice Council, the full circuit judges, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Department to allow easier access to the courthouse for attorneys in the future.
