Why Treatment Matters: An Insight Into Sex Offender Treatment from a Client's Perspective

When: Thursday, October 12th from 11:45am - Noon (pizza & registration).  Noon -1:00pm(Panel Discussion)

Where: 10th Floor Boardroom in the County Building

With the assistance of a panel of sex offender probationers and treatment providers, attorneys will be taught what to advise clients on what the experience of being in sex offender treatment in Lake County will be like. Attorneys will hear first hand from the probationer's perspective how they are treated and what requirements (expected and unexpected / official and otherwise) they have had to meet on to complete treatment. Attorneys will be instructed on how to best advise clients considering a plea involving sex offender treatment - to both ensure the client understands what will be required and to dispel misperceptions of treatment. Attorneys will learn how to counsel clients to avoid standard pitfalls of evaluation and treatment to maximize chances of successful completion.

A panel of six clients varying in sexes, ages, and experiences from the primary treatment providers in Lake County will be moderated by Treatment Provider Jerry Blain. The panel will focus on topics including how treatment improved their life, what challenges they were met with, barriers they experience while in treatment, extensions and other court experiences that may have influenced their success in treatment. With a Q&A period.

The objective is to provide a forum for a better understanding of the treatment process from the client's perspective. Please RSVP so that lunch and seating can be arranged.
