Here are some opportunities for LCBA members to provide support to Lake County Citizens:

Current Activities

Volunteer Lawyers Program
The VLP is managed by Prairie State Legal Services.  The areas of greatest need are Family (especiually divorce in domestic violence cases), Chapter 7 bankruptcy for working clients, uncontestged guardianships for disabled adults and consumer law.

Foreclosure Helpdesk
Volunteer attorneys provide general information about the forclosure process and do not provide legal representation.

Guardianship Helpdesk
Volunteers assist pro se petitioners seeking guardianship of the person of a minor child.

Lawyer Referral Service
Attorneys participating in this service are pre-screened to particpate in referrals to paying clients (not pro bono). 

Habitat for Humanity
Volunteers provide education and draft basic Wills and Powers of Attorney.

Law Explorer Post
Volunteers provide one 45 minute presentation on a substative or related law topic to high students exploring the career opportunties of becoming a lawyer.

Adopt-A-Highway
Twice a year (April & October) volunteers clean up a one-mile stretch of a Lake County roadway.

Ask-a-lawyer
Once a year, in conjunction with the Illinois State Bar Association, volunteers provide free legal advice to telephone callers

Law Day
Volunteers visit classrooms and lead 45 minute discussions regarding legal topics distributed in advance by LCBA.

Mock Trial
High School and College Mock Trial programs held in the Spring at the 19th Judicial Circuit Courthouse.  Volunteers particpate as judges.

Blood Drive
Once a year (October) the LCBA office is transformed into a blood donation center.

Shred Event
Once a year (typically a Friday in September) volunteers assist members unload materials from their vehicles to be shredded.

Law Suit Days
Donate gently used suits and professional clothing which could be used by the recipients in job interviews and professional employment settings.

People's Law School
This program is offered free to the public in the Spring. Volunteers are asked to present a 45 minute lecture. The entire series covers 6-10 substantive areas.

Voter Registrar (coming soon)
The LCBA is in the process of holding a Voter Registrar Commission.  Volunteers will be eligible to register citizens to vote at LCBA events.

2012 Elliot Pinsel's Gift Drive
We have 80 ornaments that contain names of individuals and items they need/wish for this holiday season.
