Annual
Activities
Lawyers In The Classroom
Volunteers visit classrooms and lead 45 minute discussions regarding this years topic the Magna Carta, distributed in advance by LCBA. (April)
Ask-a-lawyer - Call In
Once a year, in conjunction with the Illinois State Bar Association, volunteers provide free legal advice to telephone callers (April) Call (847) 244-3143 to speak with an attorney, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Ask-a-lawyer - Drop In Clinic
Once a year, bar association volunteers provide free legal advice to the public.
Mock Trial
High School Mock Trial programs held in the spring at the 19th Judicial Circuit Courthouse. Volunteers participate as judges. (February)
Shred Event
Once a year (typically the Friday after Labor Day) volunteers assist members with unloading materials from their vehicles to be shredded onsite.
Volunteer Lawyers Program
The VLP is managed by Prairie State Legal Services. The areas of greatest need are Family (especially divorce in domestic violence cases), Chapter 7 bankruptcy for working clients, uncontested
guardianships for disabled adults, and consumer law.
Foreclosure Helpdesk
Volunteer attorneys provide general information about the foreclosure process and do not provide legal representation.
Guardianship Helpdesk
Volunteers assist pro se petitioners seeking guardianship of the person of a minor child.
Lawyer Referral Service
Attorneys participating in this service are pre-screened to participate in referrals to paying clients (not pro bono).
